For which project management systems is Prin(z) available?

  Prin(z)

You can use Prin(z) as a standalone application. We also adapted Prin(z) to common PM tools.

At present two finished versions exist with interfaces to Actano RPLAN ® and to Microsoft Project ®. further versions are in progress (e.g. Prin(z) for Project Planner by Computer Associates ®). If Prin(z) is interesting for your enterprise, do not hesitate to contact us. We'll be happy to discuss with you, if and how Prin(z) can be integrated into your existing PM infrastructure. Contact:

Prin(z) SE eases the creation of analysis charts as a stand alone application. Extensive import-, export- and printing functions enable a unified reporting.

Buy Prin(z) AE for integration of MS Project plans and connecting of project controlling to your planning. Protocol functions and view mode MTA/CTA give easy to use possibilties for a long term controlling.

Prin(z) PE is the perfect tool to apply project controlling to your project portfolio. Get statistics of your project database at a glance. Monitor customizable time intervals. Create charts & reports for all purposes: PDF, Word, Excel, HTML, etc.

How are the graphs drawn?

  Prin(z)
Both graphs (MTA and CTA) are always drawn using the available space.

The representation of the charts depends on the minimum and maximum date of the respective data and can vary depending on type (milestones or costs) and scaling.

How do time intervals work?

  Prin(z)

NOTE: This feature is available only in Professional Edition.

The representation of the graphs depends on minimum and maximum date of the respective data. This is the default setting. With the help of the function 'time intervals' from the tool bar this setting can be modified.

The behavior of the MTA chart depends on the setting in the options-dialogue (right-click on the chart, click on 'options'). The time intervals option can be set to 'Report date', 'Plan date' or 'Independent':

Report date
The data are filtered and only milestones whose report dates lie within the interval are used to compute the minimum and maximum date. The expansion of the chart depends on the the planned dates. Usually only a selection of milestones are shown.

Plan date
The data are filtered and only milestones whose planned dates lie within the interval are used to compute the minimum and maximum date. The expansion of the chart depends on the relationships to report dates. Usually only a selection of milestones are shown.

Independent
The data are not filtered. According to the milestones this view does not differ from the normal view, only the scaling of the graph is reduced.

Click on the 'back', 'forward' and 'start' buttons to scroll.

NOTE: CTAs can't be analysed by time intervals. The CTA view is not changed by the time intervals option.

Why are there gaps in the date axis?

  Prin(z)
With increasing data set and/or lower screen resolution the available place becomes smaller and smaller, and individual date inscriptions overlap each other (in extreme cases up to illegibility).

To avoid this, date inscriptions are omitted sometimes due to threatening overlap. Since month lengths vary this can lead to irregular gaps.

How can I open a Microsoft Project® File?

  Prin(z)

In the context menu of (right-click on) the project tree select 'add project' or use the shortcut CTRL+N. In the dialogue window click on 'Open an MS Project file' (button with folder on the right hand side) or press F3. Select a MS Project file. If you have Microsoft Project ® installed on your computer, Prin(z) will read project data and milestones from the file and represent them in the project dialogue.

Why don't I get search results?

  Prin(z)
At program start Prin(z) reads all project data into the project tree. With large amounts of data this can lead to a significant waiting period.

For this reason Prin(z) offers a 'Smartload function', i.e. not all projects are read at a time, but only on demand from the database, i.e. when opening or extracting a tree knot.

Loading times are minimized, however not all data are available for the search. The search dialog finds only those projects, milestones and costs, which are present in the project tree and so it can't supply complete results.

The Smartload procedure is useful if you have more than 5,000 stored projects. Ask your system admin, if Smartload is used in your Prin(z) version.
